The e-mail had an attachment (a power point presentation). There was a shocking picture in it that made me ashamed of human beings (I am not going to update the picture on my blog because some people that I have already been shown the picture couldn't handle the scene). On the other hand I got ashamed of myself because I should have seen and known about the picture years ago. I am not going to talk about the picture cause I don't know really what to say. Here you can read about the photographer Kevin Carter who commit suicide a year later because of depression.

Organisations and the same Confusion and Uncertainty that Alice had in Wonderland!

I am working on a book about "Performance Measurement Systems". As I was reviewing some articles I came across an article by Professor "Andy Neely" and "Chris Adams" on "The Performance Prism". At the beginning of the article there is a comparision between the confusion and uncertainty that organisations have when it comes to performance and the same uncertainty that Alice had in Wonderland.

‘Cheshire Puss’, she began, rather timidly, as she did not at all know whether it would like the name: however, it only grinned a little wider. ‘Come, it’s pleased so far,’ thought Alice, and she went on. ‘Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?’
<span style="font-style: italic; Some people say that only those extraordinary people can effect things going on in the world. But every one of us can be a part of changes in the world (I mean changes in scientific fields). The problem here is "who are ones real friends and who should you give love and attention to". Do all whom you think are your friends deserve that?
All of us love ourselves more than anyone else (except our mothers, I believe they love us more than we do and they love their kids more than themselves). I strongly agree that our families are our best friends. I always appreciate God for giving me a supportive family. Here is a summary of what I have found about "Real Friends".

What are the real friends? (Here is a summary, find out more ...)

In the creation story the Creator, having formed the first person, immediately declared our social character: "It is not good that man should be alone." Seventeenth-century philosopher Francis Bacon noted two tremendously positive effects of friendship: "It redoubles joys and cuts grief in half." How true. Friends make the ordinary running errands or eating lunch, for example, extraordinarily fun. And good friends ease our pain and lighten our heavy load. They also strengthen us, nurture us, and help us grow.

This brings us to a central issue. What are the "right kinds" of friends? What makes a friend "good"? What are "the real" friends?

We all know "fair-weather" friends are no good. These are the people who walk with us in the sunshine, but they are gone when darkness falls. They take and take while we give and give, but we never see a return on our investment. On the other end is "know-it-all friend" who mothers and smothers with unwanted advice but never asks for our input.

Real friends are few. The few real friends we enjoy generally come in one of two forms, both desirable and equally delightful. They are friends of the Road and friends of the Heart. Here are two stories to explain you what we mean.

Friends of the Road
Some friendships are meant to be transitory. Like cowboys who ride hard together for miles, sharing both dusty perils and round-the-campfire coffee, we all have friendships that come to their natural end. Not because of discontent or lack of interest. Simply because the road has run out. We've hit the end of the trail together and it's time to move on to other things, other companies of men. These are not failed friendships. They are friendships of the Road, equally intense, equally necessary, equally worth cultivating and treasuring as the long-lasting versions. We couldn't survive without them. They get us through a particular stretch of road, and for that we can be grateful. The friends we meet along life's road make the journey joyful. And they are just as fulfilling as friendships of the Heart. Well, almost.

Friends of the Heart
There's nothing like a real friend of the Heart, long-lasting pals who know us sometimes better than we know ourselves. They bring such comfort to our lives. It's nearly inexpressible.

Are friends of the Heart more important than friends of the Road? Not really. We need both. What matters is how a relationship sustains you right now. An achieved real friendship - of any brand or bond - is among the best experiences life has to offer.

Introduction to Motivation!

Here is a summary of an article titeled "Mastering the Mysteries of Motivation (Part 1: Undrestanding Motivation , Part 2: Building & Maintaining Motivation)", by Dean Anderson, Behavioral Psychology Expert. Here are some points I found interesting:

The author tries to answer these questions about motivation: what it is, where it comes from, and what you can do to hang on to it and what it takes to become your own best motivator!

What is Motivation? Many people seem to think that "being motivated" means not having to struggle with opposing desires. Not so. It is our nature as human beings to pursue both the gratification of our senses and the psychological gratification of achieving meaningful but more abstract goals (both of the pusuits are necessary for our survival). As long as you and the world remain less than perfect, you will have to struggle with this conflict between immediate and long-term gratification. No amount of motivation will make it go away.

See motivation as the ability to give yourself the chance to make conscious decisions and take responsibility for your choices. Therefore, the main "enemy" of motivation is the tendency to see yourself as the hapless victim of forces (or urges) over which you have no control. Your motivation will be weak when you consider yourself to be helpless against your own urges, feelings and desires, or a victim of circumstances beyond your control.

Motivation = Taking responsibility for conscious action

So what causes you to lose motivation in the first place?

Motivation Killer #1: Unrealistic Expectations Motivation

Killer #2: Perfectionism (don't expect yourself to be perfect).

The emotional upset of failed perfectionism can make it virtually impossible to stay motivated. Allow bad occasions to teach you more about yourself, so that you can learn to do things differently. But this learning won't happen if you spend your time and energy obsessing about your slip-ups, or getting down on yourself. That kind of useless self-abuse is just a smokescreen you are using to avoid your real responsibilities and opportunities. It is the polar opposite of honest self-appraisal, no matter how “true” or “real” it might feel to you.

Do you often find yourself wondering where your motivation went? Do you suddenly revert back to your “old ways” without really understanding why? If this sounds familiar, you may have some basic misconceptions about motivation. To become your own best motivator, you must consistently do two things:

Consciously choose what you want to do (deside) as often as you can by taking a second to ask yourself, "Is this what I want to do?".

When you do something different than what you think you should do, understand that this was also your choice. Just think of it as a valid decision made under less than ideal circumstances. This way, you have the ability to modify the circumstances (in large or small ways), making it easier to make decisions in line with your intentions next time around.

The product of how you see yourself in the world: active or passive, effective or ineffective, powerful or victimized, normal or pathological. If you want to be able to motivate yourself, you need to begin seeing yourself as active, effective, powerful, and normal.

There are many situations that can push you strongly in one direction or the other. But history is not destiny. From a psychological point of view, emotional "reality" is the product of whatever story you tell yourself about how things are and why you are the way you are. If you want (or need) to change your reality, then change the story you are telling yourself. The best way to really come to believe your story is to see it come true in the small, well-chosen steps you take every day.

Hello!

Welcome to my weblog.
